Secrets of high milk yields

The most sensible issue for a farmer is: How to increase milk yields? Each detail connected with nutrition and keeping of cows effects their volume. It is important not only to arrange living space of an animal on the farm but to care about its well-balanced nutrition – forage of high content of energy and useful substances. For this purpose, relevant varieties of grasses must be mowed in due time, they must be correctly packed and stored to prevent loss of their nutritive value. Anna Shumilova, Director of the Center for Assistance in Development of Dairy and Beef Stock Farming, tells how to achieve this purpose.

The main parameter effecting productivity of an animal is quality of forage. Special attention must be drawn to two indicators: exchange energy and content of protein. Use of high-quality grass forage allows farmers to decrease net cost of milk production due to decrease of concentrate share in the diet. There are even some examples when small farms refuse to use them.

It is possible subject to observant of all technological process flow in forage production: from growing of forage crops to their conservation and storage. But for this purpose the farm manager, livestock expert, machine operator and an agriculturer must cooperate to achieve the target and to realize importance of actions taken by each of them.

Objective of the agriculture is to calculate and create a correct resource conveyor on the farm meeting requirements set by the livestock expert to volume and quality of forage crops.

In addition, the machine operator must strictly comply with instructions of the agriculturer and the livestock expert, and not just think that any green grass can be mowed at any time. It is consistency in actions aimed to achieve the targets of forage conservation on each farm that guarantee breakthrough growth of milking her efficiency.

7000 liters of milk a year – is it possible?

Yes, it is quite possible if you follow rules importance of which was verified by experience of many Russian farms.

Grass species must be mowed at early vegetative stages. In a week grass will grow, ascend, its volume will increase, but it will be grass stand of poor quality not having the nutritive value.

Except for a stage of plant development, it is also essential to comply with a mowing procedure. For example, if you start to make hay at 5 in the morning and complete further operations with grass stand within a day, then you will get forage with maximum content of amino acids and carotene in it. But if you start to work in the afternoon, you will mow useless mass, and it is unlikely that you will manage to complete the works till the end of a working day.

However, it is important not only to make hay in the correct way but to preserve it. Sometimes farmers neglect this process. As a result useless mass not having any nutritive value is put to a manger. A cow does not receive any useful substances, and becomes unproductive.

Permskaya technology of in-line haylage making is prewilting of green crops up to humidity of 45-55% and storage under anaerobic conditions. In this way you will get high-quality bulky forage with content of exchange energy at the level of 11-13 MJ/kg of the dry substance. Inevitable during storage losses in volume and quality of forage are reduced to 2-3% as opposite to 30-50% in case of other storage modes.

How does it work?

Grasses are mowed at early vegetative stages and prewilted subject to regular turning. When humidity reaches 55-60% herbage is windrowed, pressed in rolls and packed in the film. In 30-45 days nutritive forage is read – it must cut for small segments max 9 cm and to serve it to a manger.

Preservatives are not required, however proteins, sugar, carotene are preserved, and exchange energy of forage is 11-13 MJ/kg. Packed forage is about by 20% rich with useful substances.

Permskaya technology of in-line haylage making is simpler than traditional methods of hay laying in a pit. To fill in the pit 3-4 days are required. For this period weather can become worse or it will rain – in this case you will not get forage of good quality. Applying the Permskaya technology of in-line haylage making hay may be made even in moist summer: as you need only 6 to 10 hours of goods weather.

800 rolls can be made for a shift, i.e. 600 tons of haylage. If you have a lot of small fields with different term of grass maturation, then the technology of packed forage is the only one method fit to preserve the most valuable stage of plant development.
