"Knowledge-intensive technologies are hardly introduced in agriculture", Anna Shumilova, Director of the Center for Assistance in Development of Dairy and Beef Stock Farming (federal operator of the competition). — "The in-line haylage technology has been applied in most part of Russian regions for 20 years. However, large-scale researches have never been held. In course of the competition we plan to collect accurate information about application of the technology and to identify the best practices. It will help to increase profitability of agriculture throughout the country as available data of laboratory analyses and experience of companies applying the technology showed its high efficiency."
The leading manufacturer of forage conservation equipment under the in-line haylage technology – Krasnokamsk Machinery and Repair Plant supported the competition and was a general partner.
"The technology proved itself in Europe. In the Republic of Belarus almost 100% of farms apply it. Therefore, this country shows high rates of milk yields, production exceeds consumption. This fact enables export of milk", — Dmitry Teplov, Director of Krasnokamsky RMZ, noted. — "In Russia about 100 million of forage are produced annually, and only 5-7% are filmed haylage. As the technology is not so wide-spread in our country, losses of agriculture can be estimated at the level of RUB 200-300 billion per year."
According to an expert average profitability of farms applying the technology is about 30%, and in case of those farms that do not use it — 5-10%.
All farms conserving forage under the packed haylage technology can participate in the competition. And it does not matter whether foreign or domestic equipment is used. All submitted by competitors samples of conserved forage will be analyzed in a laboratory. Essential indicators effecting quality: dry substance, exchange energy, content of protein and fiber will be checked. Therefore, for farmers participation in the competition is an opportunity to assess how correctly they apply the technology and to find methods to improve efficiency.
